Florence Embury Memorial Scholarship

The Florence Embury Memorial Scholarship is made available annually through the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation and donor representatives to individuals who are currently pursuing further education in the field of hospice palliative care or oncology, are currently employed on Unit 32 at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, and who have a permanent address within 100 kilometers of Red Deer.  In the event there are no suitable applicants from Unit 32, the selection committee will consider suitable applicants from Community-based Hospice or Palliative Care programs. The scholarship may be withheld if a suitable candidate is not identified.

 

Up to two applications may be chosen annually. Successful applicants will be given a scholarship of $4,000 to cover the following levels of education:

  • Credit course in hospice palliative care or oncology from a certified educational institution (college, university, or technical institution)

  • Clinical certification program in hospice palliative care or oncology

  • Conference or workshop for the purpose of providing information and/or upgrading on hospice palliative care or oncology 

 

Eligibility:

  • Must be pursuing further education in hospice palliative care or oncology.

  • Must be a current employee of Unit 32 at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre in the area of nursing or social work with a minimum of one (1) year of service.

  • Must have a demonstrated commitment to the field of hospice palliative care or oncology.

  • Commitment to the field may be demonstrated in any number of ways, including committee participation, research, preceptorship, mentorship, teaching, and/or leadership.

  • Must demonstrate outstanding aptitude, academic, and professional ability. High academic achievement is not a necessity.

  • Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

  • Must have a permanent address within a 100km radius of Red Deer.

  • Must meet any additional factors established by the Selection Committee that are consistent with the aims and purpose of the scholarship.

  • The successful candidate must provide his/her social insurance number. 

 

Process:

Applications are accepted until March 1st, 2024.  

 

Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
