Red Deer Couple’s Legacy Gift of Nearly $2.3 Million to Benefit Local Charities

Red Deer Health Foundation received $869,139 from the Beamish estate.

RED DEER, ALBERTA, October 22nd, 2024 — A special presentation was held on Tuesday at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, where Red Deer Health Foundation received $869,139 from the Beamish estate. In addition, Gaetz Memorial United Church and Red Deer Hospice Society were also beneficiaries, receiving $869,139 and $369,953, respectively. The Golden Circle Senior Resource Centre was gifted $182,976.

“Alice was a long-time supporter of the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation. She knew how much they needed support,” said niece Debora Rice-Salomons, speaking at the event. She added that the family is especially excited about the hospital's upcoming expansion and the early arrival of a cardiac catheterization lab. Rice-Salomons hopes this donation will inspire others in the community to consider leaving a lasting legacy. “Ordinary people can make a difference,” she said.

Donald Beamish, who passed away in 2007, had a notable career in the vehicle dealership business and served as Western Regional Manager for Chrysler Canada. He was also a dedicated volunteer in Red Deer, involved in Victims Services, the Shriners, and many other organizations. Alice Beamish, who passed away this June at 88, spent 33 years with Alberta Government Telephones and was deeply involved in various volunteer efforts, including UNICEF and the Girl Guides.

“We are incredibly grateful for this generous contribution,” said Manon Therriault, CEO of the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation. “This gift will make a significant difference for the hospital, both now and in the future.” The Beamishes’ contributions will have a lasting impact on the hospital and other local organizations, continuing their legacy of community support.
