Our Vision for 2026-2029
Saving Lives Now
At certain moments, a community is called to decide what kind of future it will create. For Central Alberta, this is that moment.
Every year, more than half a million people rely on Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre for care. As the busiest regional hospital in the province, it serves patients from across Central Alberta, with nearly half arriving from outside the city. When care is needed, what matters most is having the right expertise close to home, supported by the tools and technology to act quickly.
When someone in Central Alberta experiences a heart attack, time is critical. Each year, more than 2,500 patients must be stabilized and transferred to Calgary or Edmonton for cardiac care, delaying treatment when every second matters.
Hospital Expansion at a Glance
What a Cardiac Catheter Lab Does
- Opens blocked arteries
- Restores blood flow
- Prevents heart attacks
- Often avoids open-heart surgery
While permanent labs are part of the future expansion, work is underway to establish an interim lab by 2027. Advancing access to this care sooner will save lives.
Saving Lives Now
Building the Future of Care
Saving lives today is only the beginning. Building the future of care means ensuring Central Albertans have access to leading-edge treatment for generations to come.
As the only referral hospital in Central Alberta, Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre supports the region’s most complex care needs. Expansion will add capacity, but delivering exceptional care also requires advanced technology and highly trained teams.
Care Requires More Than Buildings
Medicine is evolving rapidly. The impact of new technology depends on the expertise behind it. Community investment helps ensure both are in place when needed.
